Press Release
United Tractors Generated Rp 3.82 Trillion
Net Profit for 2009
25 February 2010 – Jakarta
PT United Tractors Tbk (“the Company”) today announced that Company’s performance during the year 2009 showed a very remarkable result. The Company’s net profit in 2009 reached Rp3.82 trillion, up 43% compared to Rp2.66 trillion in 2008.
This remarkable performance was achieved amid the volatile national economic condition. Despite the negative impact of economic slowdown in heavy equipment and coal sales, this condition was compensated by strong contribution from mining contracting subsidiary, PT Pamapersada Nusantara (“Pama”). As the result, the Company’s consolidated revenue continued to grow, from Rp27.90 trillion in 2008 to Rp29.24 trillion in 2009. Following various efforts to continue improvement and development initiatives, the Company was able to increase productivity and efficiency, resulting in 24% increase of the Company’s operating profit, from Rp4.16 trillion to Rp5.17 trillion.
Pama’s revenue contribution to consolidated net revenue currently achieved 53%, while net revenue from the heavy equipment distribution business experienced a decline and contributed 37%, whereas the remaining 10% came from the mining business unit which is run by PT Dasa Eka Jasatama ("DEJ"), a coal mine under the ownership of Pama.
Total Komatsu sales volume by end of 2009 reached 3,111 units or 28% down compared to sales volume in 2008. Although the heavy equipment market in Indonesia experienced a decline, Komatsu was able to maintain its position as market leader with 47% market share (based on internal market research). Out of the total Komatsu sales volume, the largest portion of sales went to mining sector, namely by 55%, followed by plantation and construction sectors, which contributed 22% and 14% respectively, and forestry sector of 9%. Despite the decline in heavy equipment sales, revenue from spare parts sales and maintenance services showed an increase of 23% compared to the same period last year.
On the mining contracting business, Pama’s ability to meet production targets set by its clients, has driven Pama to record its best performance in the year 2009, with increased volume in coal production by 15% and overburden removal of 35%, or from 59.0 million tons of coal and 441.9 million bcm overburden removal to 68.0 million tons and 597.9 million bcm in 2009. On coal mining business, produced by DEJ mine located in South Kalimantan, due to slowdown in export market, the Company recorded a decrease in coal sales volume from 3.7 million tons to 2.4 million tons.
On 11 November 2009, the Company has distributed interim dividend for 2009, in the total amount of Rp432.5 billion, or Rp130 per share, while the final dividend will be proposed at the Company’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in May 2010.
