Bomag application technique could be utilized for soil compaction and asphalt compaction. In soil compaction, the aim is to reduce air and water-filled voids within the soil. This would increase the soil's density and bearing capacity, while at the same time would decrease its permeability and compress ability. In case of cohesive soil, the risk of swelling due to water absorption is also reduced. Asphalt compaction results in higher density and improved strength properties. It also increases layers stability and surface's wearing resistance, while reducing the risk of water-absorption, early substance losses and mortar deterioration.

Current quality assurance in high-volume compaction projects demand continuous control of compaction process throughout operation phases. Bomag provides BTM 04 that aims to evaluate compaction progress by measuring the density, settlement, deformation and load bearing capacity. The terrameter utilizes the interaction between vibrating drum acceleration and the dynamic stiffness of material, which increases along with the compaction progress. The greater the stiffness of the material, the higher the drum acceleration. The measuring system picks up this acceleration and determines the Omega value. The higher the omega values (relative to material type), the better the compaction.
