Jakarta, June 13th,2023 – As a concrete step in protecting the environment, PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) is committed to supporting green and sustainable energy. In this first stage, UT targets to obtain Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) at 15 business branch points to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction to 3,582 tonCO2eq. This is one of the corporate transition strategies in the energy sector.

To achieve this target, UT has collaborated with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) since June 2022 regarding REC in the Cakung Industrial Development Center (PPI) area for the next five years. UT is taking this concrete step in supporting the presence of a renewable energy transition as a step towards the 2060 net zero emission target.

The first branch to received the REC certificate was the Surabaya branch of UT, with 200 units provided by PLN UP3 Surabaya on Friday (19/05/2023). In supporting the utilization of environmentally friendly energy, The use of electrical energy at the UT Surabaya branch office comes from the production of geothermal power plants from the Kamojang PLTP.

The Kamojang PLTP is one of Indonesia’s largest geothermal power plants, which is a successful example of the development of renewable energy by using geothermal energy as an energy source to generate electricity. In addition to collaborating in the utilization of electrical energy, the Surabaya branch of UT is also committed to developing programs to support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) with natural resource (SDA) efficiency measures and reuse of production results to minimize impacts that are not good for the environment to Sustainable Development.

In addition, the next branch that received the REC certificate from PT PLN was the UT Semarang branch on Monday (29/05/2023). The number of REC was taken 177 units from PLTA Bakaru which is a hydroelectric power plant in South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The Bakaru PLTA in producing electricity uses water flow from the River whose production results will be channelled for electricity use at the UT Semarang branch office.

Another branch that has just received the REC certificate is the Balikpapan Branch with a total of 633 units from the Bakaru hydropower plant. The presentation of the certificate was given directly by PLN UP3 Balikpapan to UT representatives of the Balikpapan Branch on Wednesday, (07/06/2023). In addition, the Makassar Branch also received REC certificates for 252 units from the Bakaru hydropower plant. The certificate was handed over by PLN UP3 Makassar on Wednesday, (07/06/2023).

Head of Corporate Governance and Sustainability Division, Sara K. Loebis, said the collaboration between UT and PLN aims to have a good impact through company steps that prioritize sustainable business principles and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation aspects to realize the goals of sustainable development or the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).

“As one of the corporate transition strategies in the energy sector, UT has established an Renewable Energy (EBT) business that is in line with its business development strategy in the environmentally friendly  energy sector. Hopefully, this collaboration with PT PLN can play a role as a connector for the energy and information industry in Indonesia, as well as realizing energy transition initiatives that can contribute to environmental sustainability,” said Sara L. Loebis.
