Getting Achievements Once More, Young Athlete Fostered by United Tractors FM Aditya Bagus Arfan Wins a Gold Medal at the 2023 Asian Youth Double Chess Championship

Jakarta, May 1st,2023 – Proud achievement once more by a young chess athlete fostered by PT United Tractors (UT), namely Fide Master (FM) Aditya Bagus Arfan in the Asian U-18 Chess Championship in Pairs (Mixed Double) at the Asian Youth Double Chess Championship 2023. The event was held hybrid by the Asian Chess Federation based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and online from 28 to April 30, 2023.

With the gold medal achieved by Aditya, the Indonesian chess sport now has athletes who can compete on the national and international levels. Even though he is only 17 years old, Aditya has succeeded in making a proud achievement for Indonesia. In the future, Aditya will pursue obtaining an International Master (IM) title.

This victory was achieved by Aditya and his teammate, Laysa Latifah, after both of them managed to win twice and draw once in the last three rounds, namely the 7-9 round, which took place on April 30, 2023. They started their way to the championship by defeating the Kyrgyz chess players 2-0 in the third round. -7. However, in the 8th round, IM Seyed Kian Poormosavi held Aditya to a draw. Even so, Laysa defeated the female chess player from Iran, Melika Mohammadi, so she won the championship.

In the 9th or final round, Aditya faced Bangladeshi chess players. Aditya admits that he almost failed to win after being beaten by FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia. However, thanks to good teamwork, Laysa beat the Bangladeshi female chess player, Ahmed Wadifa. With this, he made the draw match 1-1 with an additional 5 points, with two wins and one draw. This made the Indonesian team score the highest points, namely 16 points and managed to win the trophy at the Asian U18 Chess Championship in Pairs (Mix Double).

Aditya’s achievements in winning the U-18 gold medal are inseparable from UT’s support of the “inspiring youth” program, which has been running since 2017. The support provided by UT for Aditya is in the form of soft skills and hard skills training. Apart from intensive training, UT also provided Aditya with sports psychology training and facilities to participate in world-class championships.
