Sorong, October 7th, 2022 – PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), through its Environmental CSR program (UTREES) in collaboration with the Sorong City Government, TNI, and Polri planted 3,000 mangrove trees in Klawalu Tourism Area, Sorong City, West Papua Province. This program is part of the company’s commitment to preserving the environment around UT’s operational area and improving the environment quality in the area around Klawalu, Sorong City.

“Planting 3,000 mangrove trees is a form of UT’s efforts to bring positive and added values ​​for Indonesia, especially Sorong City. In addition to contributing to the environmental sector, we also provide guidance to the surrounding community and build infrastructure for the Klasaman Posyandu, conduct Modellink Vocational School development, sign an MoU with the Shipping Polytechnic of Sorong City, and carry out blood donation activities.” said BOH (Branch Operational Head) UT Sorong, Hartanto Dwi Kurniawan.

The Sorong City Tourism Area has a mangrove forest ecosystem that is still naturally preserved until today.  UT presents a role to preserve this ecosystem through ESG (Enviromental, Social, and Governance) implementation.

“The planting of 3,000 mangrove trees is a phenomenal and historic activity because it generates significant contribution to the environment and the community around Sorong City. We hope that this activity can be carried out consistently. United Tractors and TNI can continue to synergize together to preserve the environment.” said Major Mar Sahril Leemy, Pabandya Pam Sintel 3 Sorong City.

UT hopes that the collaboration between the company and the Sorong city government will positively impact the environment and the wider community. This program is also a manifestation of the Company’s sustainable business practices. It is a follow-up to the target of planting 50 thousand trees in celebration of the 50th anniversary of UT.

The mangrove tree planting program provides many benefits for the environment such as absorbing carbon, preventing coastal abrasion, maintaining water and air quality, providing habitat for marine biota, and creating tourist attraction, so that it will also be able to increase community income in the area around the mangrove forest.
