Determination, dedication, and technical expertise define the essential qualities of a great mechanic. These strengths bring a mechanic from PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) into the spotlight at the Advanced Technique Contest (ATC) 2025, held in Bangkok, Thailand. They claim First Place, earning the prestigious title of Best Mechanic in Southeast and South Asia.
The competition, held from July 1–3, 2025, is organized by the Asia Training and Demonstration Center (ATDC) and supported by Komatsu Parts Asia Corporation (KPAC). ATC is an annual event that brings together top mechanics from Komatsu distributors across various countries, challenging them to solve real-world technical issues under strict international standards.
“This victory results from our long-term commitment to nurturing and developing outstanding technical talent in Indonesia. We believe that mechanics are not just technical workers, but also the frontliners who ensure customer satisfaction and business continuity,” says Yulian Warman, Corporate Governance & Sustainability Division Head at United Tractors.
The journey to victory does not come overnight. Before competing in Thailand, the selected UT mechanic undergoes a rigorous and competitive national selection process called Indonesia Selection, involving 200 mechanics specializing in the Komatsu PC210-10M0 unit from across the country. After undergoing theoretical and hands-on troubleshooting assessments in Jakarta, only one mechanic is chosen to represent Indonesia.
During the competition, participants face a complex 100-minute challenge involving customer interviews, technical troubleshooting, and reporting. Beyond technical skills, the contest also tests their communication abilities, problem-solving mindset, and safety awareness.
United Tractors stands out among eight participating countries, including Marubeni (Vietnam), Maxima (Philippines), UMW (East and West Malaysia), L&T (India), UMW (Myanmar), and BKS (Thailand). Competing with the Komatsu PC210-10M0 unit, the UT mechanic demonstrates outstanding performance that impresses the judges and secures the top ranking.
Participants are evaluated objectively based on five criteria: troubleshooting skills (50%), reporting skills (20%), safety awareness (15%), interviewing skills (10%), and professionalism (5%). United Tractors once again proves that Indonesian human resources possess the skills and capabilities to compete and shine on the global stage.
“We organize this competition to enhance our mechanics’ ability to solve technical problems and deliver the best service to our customers,” says Hayashi-san, President of After Market KLTD.
This achievement serves as a source of pride for United Tractors and Indonesia. More than just a victory, it stands as clear evidence of the impact of investing in human capital development, intensive training, and consistent mentoring. Through various structured training programs and tiered selection processes, United Tractors remains committed to developing outstanding talent ready to elevate after-sales service standards to the global level.
