Jakarta, October 13, 2023 – PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) recently organized the 2023 SOBAT Competition with the aim of supporting the improvement of vocational education quality and creating a high-quality younger generation that is ready to enter the job market and industry. The theme of the competition was “Appropriate Technology Innovation to Create a Competitive Generation for Sustainable Vocational Education.” The competition was open to high school students (SMA/SMK or equivalent) as well as students from polytechnics and universities.

The background for the 2023 SOBAT Competition is the limited innovation in the Heavy Equipment Engineering (TAB) study program. Therefore, UT has created a competition in the TAB field to enhance the younger generation’s competencies by fostering appropriate innovation. The judging criteria for this competition are based on the quality of innovations that can bring about high competitiveness.

“Through the 2023 SOBAT Competition program, UT is committed to improving the quality of vocational education while also realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically point four, quality education. Additionally, this competition is an implementation of the 14 pillars of the SOBAT program, aiming to nurture and support creative and innovative ideas from vocational school and university students,” said UT’s CSR Manager, Himawan Sutanto.

Since its launch in 2019, the SOBAT Competition has received positive responses, as evidenced by the increasing number of participants each year. 2,716 participants have joined the 2023 SOBAT Competition with a total of 1,358 innovations. The participants are widely distributed, with 1,071 participants from Java, 108 from Sumatra, 69 from Sulawesi, 135 from Kalimantan, and 3 from Papua.

Participants go through several stages to submit their innovations. Participants write and submit abstracts of their proposed innovations in the first stage. Subsequently, they are required to develop papers and prototype designs based on the previously submitted abstracts. Finally, participants who qualify and are deemed successful in the selection process will receive funding to create the prototype they designed earlier. Participants will also be directly mentored by the 2023 SOBAT Competition team in the prototype development.

Through the 2023 SOBAT Competition program, UT hopes to deliver a positive impact on improving the achievements and competencies of vocational school students and polytechnic students. Furthermore, the participants will be competitive, resilient, and able to contribute to the future of Indonesia.
