Jakarta, May 13th,2023 – Talented young chess athletes supported by PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), Aditya Bagus Arfan and Novendra Priasmoro attempted their best performances and make Indonesia proud in the Asian Zone 3.3 Chess Championship that took place at Hotel Century Park, Jakarta. In this championship, Aditya won the International Master (IM) norm for the third time. Besides, Grand Master (GM) Novendra Priasmoro also managed to become the best Indonesian chess player at the event.

With the IM title won by Aditya, Indonesian chess has more competent athletes to compete on the international stage at present. Even though he is only 17 years old, Aditya succeeded in making an impressive achievement for Indonesia. After the event concludes, Aditya will immediately report the title he has won to the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) to obtain the IM title next June officially.

During the match, Aditya had the upper hand against fellow Indonesian representative Susanto in the middle round. Afterward, the game ended in a draw as Aditya maneuvers the black elephant b5 to threaten the white minister and get free points. Then, Aditya defeated FM Amilal Munkhdalai from Mongolia and Lin Chung-Yu Lee from Taipei at the end of the match.

On the other hand, Novendra, in this event, is the only expected athlete to ticket a competition to the 2023 Chess World Cup. Of the four leading Indonesian chess players, Novendra has been the most consistent, with four wins and three draws. In round eight of this tournament, Novendra played in mussels against Mongolian chess player GM Sumiya Bilguun. After going through quite a fierce match, Novendra was in fourth place, so he became the best player in Indonesia.

The success of Aditya and Novendra in this event cannot be separated from UT’s full support through the Inspiring Youth program since 2017. This program is created to support outstanding young chess athletes in Indonesia. The support given by UT to Aditya is in the form of soft skill and complex skill training by bringing in foreign coaches, facilitating his participation in world-class championships, and training in sports psychology.
