Jakarta, April 26, 2024 – As a manifestation of participation in commemorating National Disaster Preparedness Day (HKB), PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) collaborated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to organize various disaster education activities. The highlight of the HKB was a simultaneous disaster preparedness simulation conducted by the UT Group along with 62 fostered schools affiliated with Astra Heavy Equipment Mining Construction & Energy (AHEMCE), involving 9,281 students and 923 teachers across Indonesia.

“UT understands the importance of this collaboration in realizing a resilient disaster community sustainably. Through various programs that have been implemented, it is hoped that they can serve as a platform for the community to enhance their knowledge of disaster preparedness. We believe that with the knowledge gained, communities can become more aware and understand the vulnerability of disasters in their surroundings, as well as knowing the right steps to handle them,” said UT’s CSR Manager, Himawan Sutanto.

In its implementation, this simultaneous simulation was marked by the sounding of the siren button by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Muhadjir Effendy, accompanied by the Head of BNPB, Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, S.Sos., M.M; the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, and the Mayor of Padang, Hendri Septa, located in Padang, West Sumatra.

Each AHEMCE fostered school conducted this preparedness simulation using different scenarios such as earthquake response, fire, and flood handling. In this regard, SMK Negeri 36 Jakarta serves as an example of an educational institution conducting disaster preparedness simulations, which were broadcast online via Zoom Meeting. The scenario performed by SMKN 36 Jakarta was the response to an earthquake potentially leading to a tsunami. This simulation was coordinated by the Disaster Alert Team of SMK Negeri 36, which has received mentoring through the United Tractors Disaster Resilient Partner School (SOBAT TANGGUH) program.

Other events in the HKB commemoration included the socialization of SOBAT TANGGUH to enhance knowledge and understanding of disaster preparedness among educational units. A webinar on disaster mitigation followed this to strengthen awareness and understanding. After the simultaneous simulation, the final event concluded with a disaster mitigation competition in the form of videos to foster creativity in conveying messages.

With several activities held to welcome HKB, it is hoped that it can be a concrete step towards enhancing community preparedness in facing disasters. Moreover, through collaboration with various parties, Indonesia is expected to become more resilient in confronting disaster threats and mitigation.
